Let’s Talk About Body Contouring

Last year, the American Society of Plastic Surgery declared it to be the “year of the body.” This choice certainly made sense in our facility. We regularly have visits from New Yorkers who want to tone up as quickly, easily, and pain-free as possible through body contouring, but there is still some confusion about exactly how it works. Below, we take the classic “who, what, when, where” approach to provide a general overview of what body contouring can look like, as well as who it will work for.

Who

There is a wide range of women and men who are opting for body contouring. Some are tired of the limited results they see via exercise and dieting alone. Others are hoping to tighten up after a significant weight loss. Regardless of their reasoning for wanting body contouring, we have several options for addressing it.

What

For some patients, traditional surgery is required to receive optimal results. This is most common when there is excessive skin that needs to be addressed. Others can see less dramatic, but still significant, results from non-invasive techniques, like CoolSculpting, which removes fatty deposits in troublesome areas. Uniquely, CoolSculpting targets the fat cells underneath the skin while leaving the skin itself unaffected. It is a much less invasive alternative to bariatric surgery or liposuction and can help you reduce areas you’re worried about, like a double chin or bulging upper thigh.

When

Although there is no “perfect” time to have a cosmetic procedure, there are certain considerations you can keep in mind to get your timing just right. For example, you should be mindful of major events in your life, like travel or a milestone celebration that you want to look your best for. Adjusting your appointment time around these occasions can help you better meet your goals. Additionally, you should also factor in the type of procedure you are having. A traditional surgery will require more recovery time, including a break from your work routine to focus on healing. CoolSculpting, on the other hand, is a straightforward treatment with little to no downtime.

Where

Body contouring procedures often target larger problem areas like your abdomen, buttocks, thighs, arms, or face. When it comes to actually having the procedure, clients are welcome to choose between our Manhattan and Great Neck offices.

Why

Unless someone is pressuring you into having a procedure that you don’t want, there is no right or wrong reason for having body contouring done. To make sure you understand what to expect and how it will happen, we will have a full consultation where we discussed your goals. Time and time again, I see clients who have treatments completed and walk away feeling proud of how they look and optimistic about their future.
