Pregnancy is a beautiful thing. It’s nature’s way of re-populating our world. Women have the ability to grow and nourish life from within themselves. It truly is amazing! For many, motherhood can also be a beautiful thing. You get to see the child that you love grow and learn new things each day. You get to celebrate its milestones, share cuddles, and view the world through the eyes of a little one. So why is it that so many women don’t FEEL beautiful after giving birth? New Yorker Hannah Selinger recently penned about the experience for Glamour. In her article, she discusses how a “Mommy Makeover” changed how she felt about herself after two kids and life-altering pregnancies that shaped her body in a way it had never been before.
“[…] instead of bathing in my toddler’s joy of being unleashed in the world—because, to him, everything is exciting—I focused on my fellow moms,” wrote Selinger. “How were they all so impossibly fit? How was it that pregnancy had barely left its mark on them? I felt like a failure not only because my body had morphed into something unrecognizable, but also because I couldn’t get out of my own way.”
Ultimately, having a Mommy Makeover helped Hannah feel reclaimed, fearless, and fun.
What Is a Mommy Makeover?
Hannah’s story is unique, but it is far from uncommon to meet other women in similar circumstances. They, too, have found help in the series of procedures available through our facility. Here’s what a typical Mommy Makeover entails, although all surgeries can be tailored to fit your specific needs and concerns.
Breast Lift, Augmentation, or Reduction
Pregnancy and breastfeeding can leave you with sagging, uneven breasts, with less volume, drooping nipples, and stretched areolas. A breast lift, or mastopexy, can reverse these changes and return a youthful shape and lift to your breasts. It’s important to remember that your breast size does not change after a lift, nor does the fullness or roundness in the upper part of the breasts. If you’re looking for larger, smaller, or more rounded breasts, consider a breast augmentation or breast reduction together with a breast lift. Changes in size, particularly reduction, can relieve common issues like back pain, improper posture, rashes, breathing problems, skeletal deformities, and low self-esteem.
Tummy Tuck
Pregnancy places a lot of strain on your abdomen. By stretching and weakening the skin and muscles of the tummy and waist, you’ll often notice loose skin, stretch marks, and a straighter waistline that no amount of exercise or diet will correct alone. This is where a tummy tuck, also known as abdominoplasty, can help. During this procedure, we flatten and shape the abdomen and waist by removing excess skin and tightening muscles. The result is a firmer tummy and a more defined waistline.
Liposuction
Weight gain happens with nearly every pregnancy, but when those excess pounds stick around after birth, they can be disruptive. Liposuction works to resculpt your body by removing undesirable, resistant fat from your abdomen, waist, hips, buttocks, and/or thighs. It allows you to slim down and contour areas of your body that refuse to “spring back” to their pre-baby tone.
